After the investigations were complete and funerals were underway, there was some initial talk about closing Columbine High School permanently. The community decided instead to renovate and repair Columbine High. The majority wanted to reclaim their school from the tragedy rather than give in to it.

Over the summer of 1999 several changes took place inside and outside of the school. The grassy knoll where Rachel Scott died was transformed into a brand new library. The exterior of the school where the most damage was done was changed so students wouldn't be reminded of that terrifying day when approaching the front doors in the future. When the school reopened in the fall of 1999, it welcomed back a large and enthusiastic student body who delighted in the changes.

Below you can see a few photos of Columbine during and after the repair work was done. Some pictures have been resized for quicker loading and can be clicked on to view the full-sized image.
